Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Transfer Programs

Collin College provides general academic courses and electives for students who plan to transfer to a college or university. Because of the various transfer requirements at colleges and universities, and to ensure enrollment in appropriate courses, students should verify course transferability and degree applicability with a Collin College academic advisor and/or the college or university that they plan to attend.

To earn an associate degree, complete the 42 credit hour General Education Core, and 18 credit hours of general studies electives and the Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree requirements.

Check with your transfer institution before registering for general studies electives to make sure your courses will be degree applicable to your bachelor’s degree at the transfer institution.

Collin College’s Department of Music offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for transfer into a four-year collegiate music program. Course offerings include applied lessons, ensemble participation, music theory, ear training, keyboard skills, and music literature, collectively fulfilling the foundational requirements of the first two years of undergraduate music study.

The department is supported by dedicated applied lesson faculty specializing in winds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, jazz piano, voice, classical guitar, and jazz guitar. Applied lesson study consists of weekly one-on-one instruction and participation in the weekly departmental recital series, The Wednesday Noon Recitals, which provides students with valuable performance experience.

Collin College also offers a wide range of musical ensembles open to all students with at least intermediate proficiency. Ensemble opportunities include jazz combos, big band, guitar ensemble, keyboard ensemble, opera workshop, vocal jazz, a cappella pop ensemble, choral ensembles, wind ensemble, mariachi, and string ensemble. Ensembles rehearse weekly and culminate in one or more public performances, including an evening concert near the end of the semester. Additional performance opportunities may be available and, in some cases, required.

The Music Department holds applied lesson and ensemble auditions as well as advising students before each long (Fall and Spring) semester.
