Software Development, BAT

The world is increasingly driven by technology and behind the scenes are software developers who play a pivotal role. The Software Development Bachelor’s degree extends the Associate of Applied Science in Software Development degree with key skills in automation, testing, cloud computing, and database management. Through a team-based learning environment, students develop additional skills in planning, designing, and implementing connected software applications.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the BAT-Software Development Program is selective. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the BAT- Software Development Program. Registration into upper division courses is by departmental permission only. Information and applications may be obtained from the BAT-Software Development website:

• Complete an associate degree in the Associate of Science in Software Development. the Associate of Science in Web Development, or a closely related degree from an accredited educational institution
• Complete an application for admission to Collin College
• Submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities
• Once a CWID has been provided, complete a Request for Transfer Credit Evaluation (in CougarWeb under Home Tab)
• Attend the mandatory BAT-Software Development student orientation prior to enrollment


The academic records of students completing the admissions steps above will be reviewed by the department for specific coursework that can be transferred into Collin College and applied toward the BAT-Software Development degree program. Students will either be admitted into the BAT program or not admitted into the BAT program and directed to work with academic advisors to devise a plan for how to complete the required coursework necessary to be admitted to the BAT program.

1. May substitute ITSC 1342

2. Students pursuing the BAT in Software Development must successfully complete one core course from the Language, Philosophy, and Culture requirement, and one from the Creative Arts requirement. Students are encouraged to review their degree audit to verify that both these requirements have been satisfied.

3. Web Development Option - students must take ITSE 2302, INEW 2334 and ITSE 2371

4. General Option - students must choose ITSE 2375, ITSE 2376, and an elective.

5. May substitute ITSE 2380

* Elective (3 credit hours): ARTC 1325, ARTC 2371, BMGT 2303, COSC 2325, MATH 1342 (if not taken previously), MATH (any 2000-level), or any ITSE course not already in award
** Elective (3 credit hours): SDEV 4350 or SDEV 4355
