AAS General Education Courses


Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees must incorporate at least 15 semester credit hours (SCHs) of General Education/Core Curriculum courses with a distribution that includes:

  • At least 3 SCHs from Mathematics/Natural Sciences
  • At least 3 SCHs from Humanities/Fine Arts, and
  • At least 3 SCHs from Social/Behavioral Sciences

Additionally, Collin College requires all AAS degrees to include ENGL 1301-Composition I. 

The final 3 SCHs may be chosen by the department from among any general education/core curriculum course offered by Collin College that is not already being used to fulfill a requirement above.  Some departments may allow students to choose from among available general education/core curriculum courses.

See specific degree plan for required courses or any options. Refer to this table if the degree plan indicates options are available or that students may select an alternative to the course listed.

 

Mathematics / Natural Sciences Area


At least one course (3 credits) from the Mathematics/Natural Sciences area is required in all AAS degrees.

* Check with academic advising regarding transferability. Some majors or institutions may require a higher level mathematics course.

Humanities/Fine Arts Area


At least one course (3 credits) from the Humanities/Fine Arts Area is required in all AAS degrees.

Social/Behavioral Sciences Area


At least one course (3 credits) from the Social/Behavioral Sciences area is required in all AAS degrees.

Communication Area


ENGL-1301-Composition I (3 credits) is required in all AAS degrees.

Additional General Education Courses


The following courses are not required to be included in all AAS degree programs.  Programs may use the courses below, or any course above that is not already being used to fulfill another General Education/Core Curriculum requirement, for the final 3 SCHs of the General Education/Core Curriculum component of AAS degrees.
