WLDG 1428 - Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

An introduction to the shielded metal arc welding process. Emphasis placed on power sources, electrode selection, and various joint designs. Additionally, instruction provided in SMAW fillet welds in various positions.

Prerequisite(s): Consent of Associate Dean/Director.
Corequisite(s): WLDG 1407.
Note: Welding classes require extended periods of time standing in place, lifting heavy weights (up to 60 pounds repeatedly), reaching, bending, and working around open flames and intense heat for extended periods of time.
